The Quarantine that affected the entire world in March 2020, forced everyone to remain in their homes. Many people went from working every day to suddenly being jobless or without school with lots of free time. In my case I lost my job, my stage at the senior residence and my university classes. I went from being a busy master’s student juggling work and school to suddenly being completely free. I decided to cope through this time of social distancing and isolation by weaving. My weaving project quickly evolved into a hat making crochet project. I had recently learnt to crochet hats by observing one of my clients at the senior’s residence make a hat with a circular loom. I was intriguing and asked my supervisor to teach me this skill. I started finding textiles interesting since at the history museum where I work as a guide, there was an exposition on the Incas of Peru, and their textile art. I found the works so beautiful and detailed that even though I was never interested in fibers before I started to grow this desire to try this new art form. Everyday of the quarantine I would create one hat to help pass the time. Here are my Quarantine hats.
