Willow Charcoal
Smudge Stick

White Colouring Pencil
Black Sharpie or black fine-line marker
optional: coloring pencils
What is the Tim Burton Style?
The portrait must have the following elements:
• Long lean necks • Large eyes with a small black dot inside • Small nose • Shading around the eyes • Small round ears • Worried eyebrows and expressions • Balloon-shaped head.
Project Steps
Step 1
Draw the shape of the head and body.
Use a pencil, and draw lightly so it is easier to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 2
Draw the eyes, nose, mouth and hair and additional details.
Step 3
Colour in the hair and clothing with a colouring pencil.
Use the smudge stick to create values in the skin.
Step 4
Colour in the eyes with a white colouring pencil.
Step 5
Draw over the outline of the drawing with a willow charcoal.
Step 6
Blend the lines of the charcoal with a smudge stick.
This will give the drawing an old gothic appearance.
Step 7
Using a black sharpie marker or drawing marker, draw over the outline of the drawing to make the image stand out event more.
